According to reports, the Railways has tightened penalties for ticketless travel.What changedFrom July 1, a minimum Rs 500 penalty for travelling without a valid ticket, with an improper pass, or beyond the authorised destinationThe actual fare must also be paidThe earlier minimum penalty was Rs 250Reports say the changes were made under the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Act, 2026.
Passengers are advised to always travel with a valid ticket.
