An important update for train travellers. According to reports, the Railways has tightened penalties for ticketless travel.
What changed
- From July 1, a minimum Rs 500 penalty for travelling without a valid ticket, with an improper pass, or beyond the authorised destination
- The actual fare must also be paid
- The earlier minimum penalty was Rs 250
Reports say the changes were made under the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Act, 2026. Passengers are advised to always travel with a valid ticket.
