With the monsoon active over Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has intensified its preparations — desilting drains, monitoring pumping stations and arranging measures to prevent waterlogging in low-lying areas.

The civic body has appealed to residents to step out only when necessary during heavy rain and to follow official advisories. Emergency helplines and control rooms have been kept active.

In view of weather warnings, local railway and traffic operations are also being monitored. Teams have been deployed to act quickly on waterlogging complaints, officials said.

Several parts of Mumbai face flooding every monsoon. The BMC said timely measures this year are aimed at giving residents relief.
