An important development around India's space agency ISRO has emerged. According to reports, the Department of Space issued an internal memo on July 14 stating that voluntary retirement (VRS) and resignation requests from scientific and technical staff will not be accepted as a matter of routine.
The reason
- Reports of rising exits among those tied to Gaganyaan and other key missions
- The move is described as an effort to stem a talent drain
Staffing picture
Per Parliament data from February 2026 cited in reports, of ISRO's sanctioned 14,108 posts in the science-and-technology domain about 12,472 are filled, with the government working to fill 1,636 vacancies.
